Dubday Dubday Tar Gaya: Almost Drowned!
An Evening of Punjabi Poetry in Bogotá
Description
Thursday, August 28, 2025Salon Camden’s very own Azmi Haq was invited by Diáspora Ideas Migrantes in Bogotá to take part in their Encuentros Migrantes series. Diáspora is a home for artists of the diaspora whose creativity has been shaped by Bogotá, a city that became Azmi’s own wellspring of inspiration.
It was here, during the solitude of the pandemic, that parts of his book Dubday Dubday Tar Gaya: I Nearly Drowned! were written. Bogotá and Lahore met in a night of poetry that crossed oceans and cultures, as Azmi shared how Latin America has left a mark on his latest book of poems.
The event created a space of dialogue across languages and cultures, enriched by the live translation of María Cecilia Sánchez and Esteban Hütter. It was a celebration of language, memory, and cultural exchange, bringing together voices that bridge continents.
Next up: Toronto!
